Accidents are inevitable. Everywhere a person goes, despite his carefulness, there will always be a certain probability that an accident may happen. Accidents, usually of negative connotation, are unforeseen circumstances, and no human being would have had a hand in their occurrence. Today, there are many forms of accidents: physical, activity and vehicle. The most common may be vehicle accidents. This article will tackle on the different causes of taxi accidents and their short description.

Unsurprisingly, taxi cabs are used by most people as a convenient vehicle for transportation. This is because a taxi cab can go almost anywhere without having to pass through a specific route. However, because it is also a form of mobile business, taxi cab drivers often expedite the transportation of its customers. This can increase the risk of an accident because the more speed is applied to a vehicle, the lesser the driver can manage or control it.

Taxi accidents are almost the same with other vehicle accidents. The most common causes are reckless driving, over-speeding and disobedience to traffic rules.  The most common result is soft tissue injuries such as whiplash.

Reckless driving is a mental state where in the driver exhibits an unjustifiable disregard for road rules. According to many psychologists, reckless drivers garner high scores in personality tests which are risk taking. In most countries, it is a major traffic violation and is even more serious than improper driving or careless driving. It is usually carrying a punishment of imprisonment, fines and even suspension of driver’s license.

Over-speeding means speeding up the vehicle above the speed limit set by the country. Many taxi cab drivers ignore the impending danger that is caused by over-speeding. Numerous speed limits are being installed almost every highway in order to promote awareness to motorists on their speed compared to other vehicles. Even so, many motorists still fail to comply with these. Many motorists are in a hurry and want to shorten transportation time by recklessly speeding up without ever considering the consequences for such action. Others speed up because of the influence of alcohol. As reported in newspapers, many accidents occur because of drunk driving. An alcohol can cause the driver’s judgment on vehicle speed fail.

Another cause of taxi accidents is failure to comply with traffic rules. Traffic rules were made to protect and guide the motorists on the road. However, drivers still understand this point. The key word of this cause is willful disobedience. Many drivers nowadays intentionally disobey the traffic rules for so many insensible reasons. The most common reason is convenience. Suppose that there is a “no left” sign across the road but it is the only way that one can go to his destination without being late in his appointment. The very practical decision would be to turn left. Sadly, motorists fail to understand that the real purpose of road signs is safety.

The other factors that may cause a taxi accident to occur are poor maintenance, and drunk driving. Though inevitable, taxi accidents can be minimized if the drivers just obey traffic rules and practice defensive driving.
